(30 sec read) I had my lithium blood panels peer reviewed by an MD after 2 years of treatment just on a hunch. My kidneys were being damaged significantly, developing into stage 1 then stage 2 CKD.

My psychiatrist “forgot” to monitor my labs. The response I got? “Whoops”. Then ignored my inquiries entirely, leaving me to flounder.

Accountability is absent in therapy and psychiatry. It’s your word against “professionals”, with zero checks and balances. No one even said “I’m sorry”. And my inability to trust providers since has been dismissed overzealous and paranoid.

Broke my heart tbh, and my kidneys. Kidney failure is serious. Always peer review everything in therapy and psychiatry, especially labs for lithium. And ask how they manage mistakes and failures, including yours and their own. Bias too.
